Sonia Squires

Sonia is Head of Communication at Citizen Housing and a Board Director at the Institute of Internal Communication. With a career rooted in purpose, Sonia began in higher education, championing under-represented groups and empowering young people to realise their potential. Her passion for meaningful connection led her to internal communication, where she’s made her mark across the NHS, AQA, and now the social housing sector.

A trusted advisor to senior leaders, Sonia specialises in helping them communicate with clarity and empathy, building stronger, more engaged teams. Her MBA dissertation explored the critical role of leadership in employee engagement, highlighting its everyday influence on organisational culture and performance.

Outside of work, Sonia is a proud mum of two, often found dancing in the kitchen with her daughters or cheering on Derby County.
